Painted in 2014 for the Siani Pob Man exhibition.
Alan Garner's evocative retelling of Blodeuwedd overlays the powerful magic and imposing figures of the Mabinogion onto everyday Wales. He captures the timelessness of complicated family life in these old stories, and uses the iconography of the pretty Welsh tea service to do this.
For the 2015 Mabinogi Exhibition
This is a piece inspired by the transformation of Blodeuwedd in the Mabinogion. Throughout history tarring and feathering has been used as a form of mob vengeance against women who are seen to have betrayed a cause. Is this what happens to Blodeuwedd?
This is a piece inspired by Branwen's captivity in the Mabinogion. I chose to focus on the busy kitchen worktop of her enslavement and the moment when the talking starling submits to having Branwen's letter to Bendigeidfran tied to the root of it's wing. How would this young noblewoman approach this task through all the steam and peelings? I wanted to convey the magical relationship between her and this bird she has raised instead of her child.
