STATEMENT

I have lived and worked as an artist in different parts of the world - drawing and painting in Uganda, doing book commissions in Spain and Tenerife, as first-mate aboard a sailing boat in Cuba and Mexico and helping to restore a ferro-cement boat in the DIY boat yard communities of the USA .

Travel informs my work and is how I navigate a shifting sense of home and belonging. I am interested in moments of connection and understanding and how hiraeth influences my lived-experience and recollection of place. My drawings from life are acts of devotion and attention. I make memory drawings and paintings to try and capture the particular sensory and emotional immediacy of an itinerant existence.
